Skate Your Way to Better Health in 2018

When you think of exercising, what do you imagine? Sweating alone on a treadmill? Trudging through an at-home workout? Getting yelled at by a trainer at some early-morning “boot camp”? At Rollhaven Skate Centers, we say no way! This year we’ve committed to getting fit, and we’re doing it the best way we know how: by roller skating at our three Michigan locations! You read that right: roller skating offers a great workout. Check out all the health benefits of skating.

Roller skating works all the muscles in your body. Not only will your legs get a workout as you power yourself around the rink, but your arms, shoulders, and core (i.e. the muscles in your abdomen and back, which are important to good posture) will get in on the action as you keep yourself upright and balanced.

Skating also provides a great cardio workout, building endurance and improving the health of your heart, lungs, and brain. Just like running or jogging, when you skate you strengthen your heart so that it doesn’t have to work as hard. Unlike running or jogging, though, skating is gentle on your joints, especially your knees.

And finally, the most overlooked benefit: roller skating is fun! How much easier would it be to stick with an exercise routine if it was something you actually enjoyed doing? That’s the main reason we’re using it as one of the core parts of our fitness plan in 2018.
